The first step in web design is to answer the basic questions, what is the purpose of the site, who is the audience, what will go on the site. Then comes the question of how best to present the material on the web.
The site should have an original look, yet without unusual features that make the site difficult to use. Like most other things, some websites are attractive to look at and to use, others are not. Some websites hold your interest, others are boring or bland. Some look like they are made cheaply, others look professional. Some have a consistent look and user interface across the whole site, while with some sites it is hard to tell whether you are looking at the same site from one page to another.
Linkworks® designs web sites that not only communicate the distinctive
nature of your organization, but are built with online best
practices and usability in mind. Our web designs
are clean and functional, intuitive to use, and are easy to
maintain.
Design verb (i): to plan or fashion a work of art, etc.
Choosing Features
Sometimes (usually) there will be a trade-off between two or more of the features you want.
For example, the same square edges and straight lines may look neat and professional, or boring and plain, depending on the situation. Loud, flashy (and all too often flashing) banners may catch the viewer's attention, or annoy and even drive away visitors from your site. Beautiful pictures and animation may look amazing but take minutes to display on the screen.
After the basic questions have been answered, the right balance can be found for your site. Then comes the task of authoring, assembling and collating the graphics and text, and coding the site.
The Web Design Phases
Each site we build – big or small – is encompassed
by the following phases:
- Define
We believe that a full understanding of your business model
and unique situation is the first step in designing a
successful web site. We work closely with you to define
your goals and
objectives so we can design a site that’s exactly
what your business needs.
- Design
Our designers will continue to work closely with you as
we begin the initial design and layout of your site.
We will
then meet with you – in person or over the phone – to
review the design of your web site. Depending on your approval
of the initial product, we will then proceed to the development
phase or implement any revisions you have to the design.
- Develop
Once you have approved the design, we will develop the back-end
of your site. This is where our programming expertise
comes into play. We will develop all the functionality and
programming needed to make your web site work for your business
the way you need it to.
- Deploy
We will then have a final meeting with you to review the final
development of your site. When we have received your approval,
we will launch your site so it is live on the Web.
The Web Design Process
The website design process begins in a listening phase - where we identify your company's vision and marketing focus. From this, we create concepts that are aligned with your vision. We place heavy emphasis on usability, information architecture, layout, and copy. After the creative and development processes are complete, we launch your site to all of your target markets.

We strive to design and deliver web sites to our customers in Sydney, the Blue Mountains, and elsewhere that emphasize aesthetics, functionality, creativity, and customer experience.
